Don’t be greedy!

To keep something for yourself

‘To keep something for yourself’ is used when we have something that we don’t want to share or give away. For example:

Ana:      “Did you hear that Daniela’s mum died? She’s having a garage sale next week to get rid of some of her stuff”

Gema:  “Do you think she’ll sell that beautiful gramophone that she had?”

Ana:     “I don’t think so, Daniela really likes that too. I imagine that she’ll keep that for herself.

Careful!

Don’t confuse ‘To keep something for yourself’ with ‘To keep something to yourself’ which means to keep a secret. For example:

Dave:    “Keep this to yourself but Susan told me that she’s quitting at the end of the month.”
