‘To go too far with something’ is an expression that we use to express that something has been exaggerated or taken to an extreme. It is synonymous with ‘to take something too far’. For example, “Nearly all historians agree that making Germany pay staggering reparation payments after the end of the First World War was going too far and was a fundamental factor contributing to the begining of the Second World War.
