‘To take something back’ means to return something to where it came from.
For Example:
“I need to take this book back to the library”
He took the rental car back at the end of the holiday, then he caught the plane home.
‘To take back’ can also be used with people as well as objects.
For example:
“Hey Jim, do you think you could take me back to my house after the party? My car is being repaired at the moment.”
‘To take something back’ can also be used to retract something that you have said, usually when angry or not concentrating properly.
For example:
Anne: “Jonny you’re useless! Why didn’t you pick up grandma on the way over?”
Jonny: “Nobody told me too, I thought you were picking her up.”
Anne: “Sorry, I take that back, I didn’t mean to be rude; please excuse me I haven’t slept much and I’m cranky.What I meant to was, didn’t you get my message asking you to pick her up?”
In the cartoon the lady will take them to the leader only if they return with him to the planet they came from (take him back with them), freeing the earth of that person. The lady in the cartoon obviously doesn’t hold politicians in high regard!
